Secure Staking Alliance Code of Conduct

Values

These are the values to which people in the Secure Staking Alliance community should aspire.

Be friendly and welcoming

Remember that people have varying communication styles and that not everyone is using their native language. Note that meaning and tone can be lost in translation, and tone is harder to convey in writing.

Productive communication requires effort. Think about how your words will be interpreted. Remember that sometimes it is best to refrain entirely from commenting.

In particular, respect differences of opinion.

Interpret the arguments of others in good faith, do not seek to disagree.

Avoid:

  • Derailment: stay on topic; if you want to talk about something else, start a new conversation.

  • Unconstructive criticism: don't merely decry the current state of affairs; offer—or at least solicit—suggestions as to how things may be improved.

  • Snark (pithy, unproductive, sniping comments).

  • Potentially offensive or sensitive issues; these all too often leads to unnecessary conflict.

  • Microaggressions (brief and commonplace verbal, behavioral and environmental indignities that communicate hostile, derogatory or negative slights and insults to a person or group).

What you say and do matters. Take responsibility for your words and actions, including their consequences, whether intended or otherwise.

People are complicated. You should expect to be misunderstood and to misunderstand others. When this inevitably occurs, resist the urge to be defensive or assign blame. Try not to take offense where no offense was intended. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Even if the intent was to provoke, do not rise to it. It is the responsibility of all parties to de-escalate conflict when it arises.

Code of Conduct

Our Pledge

We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community.

In the interest of fostering an open and welcoming environment, we as contributors, members, and leaders pledge to make participation in our alliance and our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

Our Responsibilities

Community leaders are responsible for clarifying the standards of acceptable behavior and are expected to take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any instances of unacceptable behavior.

Community leaders have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions that are not aligned to this Code of Conduct, or to ban temporarily or permanently any contributor for other behaviors that they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.

Our Standards

Examples of behavior that contributes to a positive environment for our community include:

  • Demonstrating empathy and kindness toward other people

  • Being respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences

  • Giving and gracefully accepting constructive feedback

  • Accepting responsibility and apologizing to those affected by our mistakes, and learning from the experience

  • Focusing on what is best not just for us as individuals, but for the overall community

Examples of unacceptable behavior include:

  • The use of sexualized language or imagery, and sexual attention or advances of any kind

  • Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal/political attacks

  • Public or private harassment

  • Publishing others' private information, such as a physical or email address, without their explicit permission

  • Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies within all alliances spaces, and it also applies when an individual is representing the alliance or its community in public spaces.

Examples of representing the alliance or community include using an official alliance e-mail address, posting via an official social media account, or acting as an appointed representative at an online or offline event. Representation of the alliance may be further defined and clarified by alliance or community leaders.

This Code of Conduct also applies outside the alliance spaces when the community leaders have a reasonable belief that an individual's behavior may have a negative impact on the alliance or its community.

Enforcement

All community leaders are obligated to respect the privacy and security of the reporter of any incident.

Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be reported to the community leaders responsible for enforcement.

All complaints will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly.
